The name or names of God, sometimes known as Holy Names, describe a form of addressing God that is present in liturgy or prayer of various world religions.
Prayer involving the Holy Name or the Name of God has become a part of both Western and Eastern spiritual practice – a number of traditions have lists of many names of God, many of which describe the various qualities of the Supreme Being.
This website seeks to provide a growing list of the names of God (as well as the definitions or meanings of those names) across the many world religions, including the names of god in Christianity, Islam, Judaism, the Bahá’í faith; the names of god in native religions such as the African and American Indian gods, as well the names of god in some of the religions of ancient civilisations, such as the Romans, Greeks, Aztecs, Incas, Mayans and Persians.
